Week 36, 2017 – Statistical Highlights of the week

India completed the tour whitewash in Sri Lanka during the 36th week while England and Australia came back well to win and level the series respectively against West Indies and Bangladesh. The Carribean Premier League (CPL) also came to an end in the week while the Indian domestic season kicked off with the Duleep Trophy. Here we look at the major records and stats created during the 36th week of 2017. 1 – Nathan Lyon became the first player to dismiss top four batsmen in an innings ‘lbw’ in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test at Chittagong. Bangladesh’s innings is also the first instance of the top four players getting out lbw to spinners. Overall, this is the 7th instance in Test cricket where top four batsmen in an innings were dismissed lbw. 2 – Chittagong is the 2nd Test venue where Shakib Al Hasan has scored 500+ runs and taken 50+ wickets. He had done the double in Test cricket at Dhaka as well. Only Ian Botham and Imran Khan have done the double at two different venues. 3 – This is the 3rd time India completed a whitewash in a 5-match ODI series under Virat Kohli. He became the first captain with three whitewashes in an ODI series comprising of five or more matches. (Leading the team in all the matches of the series) 6 – James Anderson became only the 6th player, 3rd pacer and the 1st England bowler to take 500 wickets in Test cricket. He is the joint slowest to complete 500 Test wickets as he took 129 Tests. 13/152 – Nathan Lyon became only the 2nd visiting player to take 13 wickets in a Test match in Asia during the Chittagong Test. Ian Botham took 13/106 against India in 1980 at Mumbai. 15 – Jasprit Bumrah’s 15 wickets in the Sri Lanka-India series are the most for any pacer in a five or fewer match bilateral ODI series. These are also the most in a bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka. 22 – Nathan Lyon’s 22 wickets in the Bangladesh series are the joint 2nd most for any player in a 2-match Test series. His tally is also the highest for any player in a 2-match series outside home. 100 – MS Dhoni became the first wicketkeeper to effect 100 stumpings in ODI cricket during the 5th ODI against Sri Lanka. He went past Kumar Sangakkara’s 99 stumpings in ODIs. 30 – Kohli scored his 30th century in ODI cricket in the 5th ODI against Sri Lanka equalling Ricky Ponting’s 30 ODI tons. Only Sachin Tendulkar (49) now has more ODI centuries than Kohli. 219 – Innings Virat Kohli needed to complete 10,000 List A runs. He is the quickest among the 100 players who reached this milestone. Kohli completed the 10000-run milestone in the 5th ODI against Sri Lanka. 330 – Virat Kohli’s 330 runs in the Sri Lanka-India series are the 3rd most for any visiting player in a bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka. Prior to this series, only Joe Root (367 in 2014) scored 300 runs in an ODI series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Kohli and Rohit Sharma (302) scored over 300 runs in this series. 1016 – Runs Virat Kohli has aggregated while chasing in T20I cricket; the most by any player. He went past Brendon McCullum (1006) during the one-off T20I against Sri Lanka. 1938 – Nathan Lyon became the 1st Australian spinner during the Chittagong Test to open the bowling in the first innings of a Test match since Bill O’Reilly in 1938 at Nottingham against England. 10000 – Parthiv Patel became the 48th Indian to complete 10,000 runs in first-class cricket during the Duleep Trophy game. Jonny Bairstow also completed 10,000 FC runs during their Test match against West Indies.
