England skipper Joe Root was struck on his groin by a lethal delivery from Australian pacer Mitchell Starc during the closing moments of play on Day 4 of the 2nd Ashes Test match. Root immediately fell to the ground withering in pain.

Root was already suffering from the same injury as he was struck on the groin while practicing in the nets before the start of play on Day 4 as well. And now, former England Test skipper Alastair Cook had reacted to Root’s groin blow.

Cook was struck on the groin during an Ashes Test match against Australia in the year 2015 while fielding in the slip cordon, and Root, who was fielding next to him was in splits looking at Cook. And, Cook said that ‘what goes around, comes around.

The former England batting great also added that he is Ok, as he has had two children after that blow. Cook also joked that he does not know how Root is, after the blow.

“I would love to say what goes around comes around. But I was OK. I’ve had two children since. I don’t know how Rooty is at the moment,” said Cook as quoted by The West.

It was not a great time to get hit: Travis Head

Australian cricketer Travis Head revealed that after Root was struck on the groin, the Aussies were told to give the England captain some space. Adding that Root was in trouble with Starc steaming in, Head concluded by labelling the injury as an unfortunate one.

“We got told to give him some space, so we kept well away. Obviously he went through some trouble (on Sunday) morning then Starcy (bowling) on that line is never pretty. Unfortunately with the day that he’s had it, it wasn’t a great time to get hit,” concluded Travis Head.
