Whenever India plays cricket in England, the absconded liquor baron Vijay Mallya’s episode returns. Sunday, it was no exception at the Oval either. The bank defaulter, who is currently facing extradition proceedings in the UK and the political circles in India having turned heated over his departure from the country, arrived to witness the league match between India and defending champions Australia. As Mallya was exiting the stadium after the match, he was greeted with “chor hai” chants. The 63-year-old was accompanied by his mother Lalitha.

Earlier in the day, Mallya was seen evading questions on his extradition case as he arrived to watch the game that India eventually won by 36 runs to maintain their clean win record so far.

“I am here to watch the game. Preparations are underway for the next hearing scheduled in July,” Hindustan Times cited reports as quoting the man as saying. Later, when he was asked how he would respond to the chanting by the crowd, Mallya said he was trying to make sure that his mother didn’t get hurt.

Last year, the UK Home Office and the Westminster Court had ordered Mallya’s extradition to India over charges of money-laundering, fraud and conspiracy following his failure to convince authorities that he was being victimised politically. In April, Mallya was denied permission by a UK court from appealing against his extradition order to India to face the law for alleged money-laundering amounting to Rs 9,000 crore.

Responding to crowd’s cry, Mallya while leaving the stadium said, “I am making sure my mother doesn’t get hurt,” One of the English locals, who called Mallya a thief demanded to apologize India in the Video.
