England put on a brilliant show with the bat in Cardiff as they recorded their highest CWC total of 386/6 against Bangladesh. Opener Jason Roy amassed 153 from 121 balls with 14 fours and five sixes which includes a hat-trick maximums before he got out trying for the 4th. In response, Bangladesh couldn’t get going against the pace of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood. Shakib Al Hasan’s maiden World Cup ton of 121 couldn’t save the day for Bangladesh who were bundled out for 280 in 49 overs.

All the statistical highlights from England’s big victory against Bangladesh at the Sophia Gardens:

England’s best ever and Bangladesh’s worst:

386/6 – England’s total of 386/6 in this game is their highest total in the World Cup. They surpassed their previous highest total of 338/8 against India in 2011 by 48 runs.

386/6 – The 386/6 is now the highest conceded by Bangladesh in a World Cup game. They conceded 370/4 to India in the opening game of the 2011 World Cup.

This is also the 2nd highest that Bangladesh has ever conceded in an ODI. The highest ODI total against Bangladesh is 391/4 also by England in the 2005 Nottingham ODI.

Another game, another 300+ for England:

7 – England registered their 7th successive 300+ total in the ODI format to become the first side to record such a streak. They bettered Australia’s record of six successive 300+ totals in 2007 including five in a row at the World Cup.

Stats: England score 300+ for the 7th consecutive time in ODI cricket

Nearly the biggest knock:

153 – Jason Roy became the 2nd player to score a 150+ in the World Cup for England. Andrew Strauss scored 158 in the 2011 Tied game against India in Bangalore.

3 – As many as three individual centuries have been recorded by England batsmen in this World Cup; the most by them in a CWC edition. They had two individual tons scored in 1975, 1983, 2007 and 2015.

A curious case of centuries in losing cause:

27 – Shakib Al Hasan’s century was the 27th hundred in an ODI defeat in 2019. These are the most number of ODI tons in losing cause in a calendar year surpassing 26 in the year 2015. A total of 59 individual centuries have been scored in 2019 with only 32 of them coming in the winning cause.

Shakib-Rahim pair tops Bangladesh charts:

6 – Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim pair have shared six century partnerships between them in ODI cricket; the most by a pair for Bangladesh. Tamim Iqbal had five century stands apiece with Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar.

A rare all-round double by Shakib:

4 – Shakib Al Hasan is only the 4th player to score a century and open the bowling in the same World Cup game. Kapil Dev bowled the first over of Zimbabwe innings after scoring an unbeaten 175 in the 1983 CWC game.

Neil Johnson of Zimbabwe finished with 132* against Australia after bowling the first over of the game. Tillakaratne Dilshan also scored 108* after bowling the second over of the 2011 Quarter-Final against England.

3 – Shakib is the 3rd player who has scored 70+ runs with the bat and also conceded 70+ runs with the ball in the same CWC game. Sean Williams bagged this rare double against Ireland in 2015 while Nathan Coulter-Nile replicated it against the Windies a couple of days ago.
