An India-Pakistan game is always a high attraction in any tournament and if the derby is scheduled in a World Cup, then one can well imagine the excitement that it generates. Come June 16 and the two arch-rivals will lock horns at Old Trafford in Manchester. This is the seventh time that the two teams will meet each other in a WC starting 1992 with India having won all the six previous encounters. According to reports, tickets for the high-voltage clash were sold out within 48 hours of the start of the online sales with most of the buyers being Indians.

The demand for the tickets for the India-Pakistan match is higher than that between hosts England and defenders Australia which will be held at the Lord’s on June 25. The tournament kicks off with a game between England and South Africa on May 30 while India play their first match against South Africa on June 5. Pakistan play the Windies in their opening game on May 31.

Dan Whitehead, corporate sales and business development manager at Cricket Lancashire has reportedly said that the atmosphere during the India-Pakistan clash will be louder even than the England-India encounter scheduled at Edgbaston on June 30. The tickets for the Indo-Pak match have the highest price tag with the lowest denomination being over Rs 77,000.

“It is definitely going to be huge. Last year when India played against England in a T20 match here, it was a gorgeous sunny day and the crowd was predominantly Indian. The stadium was painted with Indian colours and the Bharat Army was very noisy. It was a great game of cricket and India was far too good and the atmosphere was amazing and it’s going to be even louder for the India-Pakistan Game,” Whitehead was quoted as saying by InsideSport.

“Because of the huge demand, we created more packages and at this very moment, we have only 200 packages left for those who would like to still make it for the big game.”

Bharat Army to organise a concert on match eve

Coming back to the India-Pakistan clash, the Bharat Army will organise a concert in Manchester on the eve of the clash where Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa is expected to perform.

However, this game had come under the cloud a few months ago in the wake of a terror attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir that led to the death of several personnel. There was a strong call from India to let the national team boycott the June 16 game even if that meant dropping two points against arch-rivals.
