CT IPL Flashback: 5 Biggest fights in the history of the IPL

There are players who are rivals when they play for their countries but are teammates when it comes to the IPL. Amidst the compassion, the league has also seen some major fights over the years. Some of the fights being among Indian players while some international stars fighting it out. There have been some moments of aggression that almost got out of hand on the cricket field. While some should not have happened and some incidents just added flair to this already entertaining tournament. CricTracker presents to you the five biggest fights in the history of IPL. 1. Gautam Gambhir battles it out with Virat Kohli This is two aggressive captains facing each other, both come from Delhi and both have played some brilliant innings for India but when it comes to passion for their IPL teams then there are no boundaries. Virat Kohli we know is a passionate man but the usually quiet Gambhir is also no pushover. This happened when Virat Kohli hit one of the KKR bowlers Pradeep Sangwan for two consecutive sixes. The next ball saw Virat depart and this led to a wild celebration for the KKR team and Kohli was taking none of it. There was some explicit exchange of words between Gambhir and Kohli as the former walked towards him and looked Kohli in the eye. Virat was not backing off as both of them indulged in an unwanted quarrel. Both of them were fined later on but it became one of the talking points of that season. 2. Kieron Pollard reacts insanely to scare Mitchell Starc Pollard is an explosive batsman and the whole world knows it but he is also one of the most aggressive players in the world. In IPL 7 he and Mitchell Starc were involved in an ugly fight. A bouncer bowled at Pollard which was left alone saw Starc spit some words at him. The next delivery Pollard pulled out and Starc continued with the ball, this angered the Trinidadian and he threw his bat towards the Australian. Fortunate for Pollard as well as for Starc, it didn’t hit him. This incident ended with Chris Gayle interfering and calming down his national teammate while Starc smiled his way off. 3. Shane Warne and Sourav Ganguly have a controversial encounter (Photo Source: BCCI) Ganguly was batting for Kolkata Knight Riders and he was caught by Graeme Smith but the prince of Kolkata was not sure about it. He insisted the umpires went upstairs which angered the Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne. This is the very first edition of IPL, the TV umpire does not have conclusive evidence and hence rules it in the favor of the batsman. This sets of Warne completely. However, Ganguly did not make any difference as he walked back the very next over but that led to some harsh comments from Warne after the match. Warne said “If an international captain like Graeme Smith caught it and said it was a clean catch and Rudi Koertzen said he caught it. And anyway, the players aren’t allowed to ask for the umpire. But Sourav asked the Indian umpire to go to the TV replay. That’s not in the spirit of the game so I was very, very disappointed with Sourav.” 4. Kieron Pollard does not like Australians (Photo Source: BCCI) Pollard again was involved in a fight. This time it was again an Australian only difference is that Pollard was bowling. Shane Watson was batting well for Rajasthan Royals and Pollard was given the ball. Instead of the ball, Pollard’s tongue was doing all the talking as he sledged the Australian. Watson took the help of the umpires to calm the West Indian down. Later when Watson got out to Pollard, he celebrated wildly and gave him a big send off into the dug-out. Watson then took the revenge when Pollard was fielding right in front of the Rajasthan Royals dugout. He swirled few words at the West Indian only to be sent upstairs by their mentor Rahul Dravid. This saw a huge rivalry develop between Pollard and Watson. 5. Harbhajan slaps Sreesanth Sreesanth has always been the controversy’s favorite child. Always involved in some or the other things, the Kerala-lad was once again at the center of the things as he was allegedly slapped by the Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh. However, this slap was never seen by anyone but this resulted in a 12-match ban of Harbhajan and needed judiciary to resolve the fight. Sreesanth was seen crying and this made onto the front page of every newspaper.
