Records are meant of be broken, they said. Barring the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan, Sachin Tendulkar, Don Bradman and a few more, the top positions keep changing hands from time to time. The Master Blaster once broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record of most Test runs. Corey Anderson broke Shahid Afridi’s record of the fastest ODI ton and in the very next year, AB de Villiers went to the helm. Apart from the significant ones, there are plethora of other small records, which get overhauled from time to time. Going into the future too, a number of new records will be created, which won’t be much of a surprise. However, if delved deep down, a few of the numbers may have the least chance of getting toppled. It will need some superhuman effort thereafter to overhaul them. But it was only from 2017 that he started to peek and became a sought-after player across the globe. In 2018, he was the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket with 96 scalps. In his career thus far, the leg-spinner has 269 wickets. In the all-time list, the Young Turk is already 11th and that at an age of 21. If he keeps up with his form, he can even top the list in the next three to four years. Being a spinner, physically, isn’t quite rigorous as that of a pacer. So, he can play until the age of 40 or even longer. If he keeps up to the fitness standards, he may well end up playing around 1100 to 1200 games. Virat is only eight centuries away from Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 51. If he continues to score tons at this rate, then by the mid of 2021, Virat should be at the helm. At that time, Virat will be in his mid-32 and hence, will have quite a bit of cricket left in him. If he plays until even 36, then 65 to 70 tons may not be out of reach for him. And it took three innings for him to gain back his number one rank from being placed fourth. Moreover, after playing seven Test innings, he is the leading run-scorer in the format in 2019. He made his debut in 2010, but it was from 2014 from when he started to show his class. Smith is only 27 runs away from 7000 Test runs. Smith has a Test average of 64.56, second only to Don Bradman’s 99.94. In his first 16 Tests, Smith averaged only 34.64, but from January 2014 until date, the batter has piled 6003 runs at an average of 75.03. Also, 24 of his 26 tons have come in this time period. In 2015, 2017 and 2019, Warner became the Orange Cap holders, scoring 562, 641 and 692 runs. The southpaw has eight T20 tons, second only to Gayle’s 22. The New South Wales-born also has 73 half-centuries, manifesting his consistency. There’s a great chance of Warner playing at least for the next five to six years and if he continues his run-churning spree, then he may well end with around 14,000 runs.
