Life is undoubtedly a series of natural and spontaneous changes and it is fair enough to say that change is the only constant. After the heart-wrenching defeat in the semi-final of the World Cup 2019 which was India’s to take, the time has come for the team to start focusing on the next edition in 2023.

The current stalwarts of the team will be on the wrong side of the thirties by the time the mega-event begins. Four years? It seems to be too far to plan, but we know how fast time flies and this four-year phase to the cup could be the perfect time to get out the bench strength warmed up.

With the next World Cup taking place in the country, Team India will need to build an army that can exceed the expectations of the fanatics who cheer them on. There is a need to blood the youngsters into the team now so that they are ready to face the challenges that will be thrown at them in ’23. With the majority of the current team moving past their prime by then, here’s a list of 5 India ‘A’ players who can be a part of the 2023 Indian World Cup setup.

Shubman Gill has displayed his versatility by fitting into almost all positions – be it an opener or a middle-order batsman – he has delivered in the U19 and India ‘A’ team. From playing in the shadows of Prithvi Shaw to being recognized as the Emerging player at IPL 2019, he has grabbed all opportunities provided to him with both hands and showcased his potential.

The 19-year-old teenager from Punjab has consistently shown his appetite for huge scores across all formats. From an unbeaten double century in his Under-16 state debut for Punjab to the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, U19 World Cup, 2019 IPL and recent India ‘A’ tours; he has shown an extraordinary consistency with the bat. Over a period of time, he has become an asset for his side and can potentially be groomed as the next opener / no. 3 for India.

Gill’s determination, patience, and his level of discipline promise him a career that should serve the senior team in the times to come. If he manages to maintain his fine form, he is a sure shot contender to make it to the playing 11 for the Men in Blue in the 2023 World Cup.
