One would have felt sad for Shubman Gill who made his ODI debut during the New Zealand tour before the World Cup but couldn’t make a cut for India’s first series after the mega tournament. A determined Gill finished as the man of the series in the unofficial ODI series in India A’s ongoing tour of the West Indies. In the 3rd unofficial Test match, Gill bagged a golden duck in the first essay.

Gill came to bat in a similar situation as they lost two wickets for just 14 runs on the board and soon were 50/4 after taking a narrow 7-run first-innings lead. He stitched on a marathon partnership on the 3rd day with his skipper Hanuma Vihari (118*) to bail India A out of trouble as the duo added 315 runs for the 4th wicket. The 19-year-old finished with an unbeaten 204 from only 250 deliveries.

All the major stats and records that Gill created during his unbeaten double hundred:

He was 20 years and 79 days old back then and was the youngest FC double centurion away from home among Indians.

3 – Gill is only the 3rd teenager to score a double hundred in first-class cricket in the Caribbean Islands. Geoffrey Greenidge (18y 301d) in 1967 for Barbados against Jamaica and Frank Worrell (19y 197d) in 1944 also for Barbados against Trinidad are the others with FC 200s in the West Indies as teenagers.

19y 334d – At the age of 19 years and 334 days, Gill became the youngest player to score an FC 200 for an Indian representative team. Gautam Gambhir was 20 years and 124 days old in 2002 when he scored 218 for Indian Board President’s XI against the touring Zimbabweans.

Gill is also the 2nd youngest player to score an FC double hundred in an unofficial Test match. Sanath Jayasuriya struck two 200s for Sri Lanka B against Pakistan B in 1989 at the age of 18.
