The 2021 IPL retention ceremony has already taken place, and franchises have made some bold moves to release the big names out of their pool. The IPL 2021 mini auctions are likely to get on tables in February 2021, and preparations for the same have already kicked off. The retention ceremony took place on January 20, and teams came up with their desired lists to endure a great season ahead.

The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings endured a terrible IPL 2020 season in UAE, where they failed to seal the playoffs berth for the first time in their IPL history. They finished seventh on the points table, and the skipper made clear that they would be bouncing back with full preparation and great squad planning to shine in the next season.

As CSK has come up with its list of retained and released players, they will be moving up with a purse of INR 22.9 Cr ahead. They still have one overseas spot vacant, and it will be a thing to see who they will pick up to make the best possible combination.

1. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell had a horrendous IPL 2020 season where he failed to perform his all-round duties with KXIP. The management kept backing him due to his seniority, experience, and past performance, but the Australian couldn’t deliver in a single match.

In 13 matches, he had just 108 runs in his account at a dismal average of 15.42 and scalped three wickets in total. However, when he went back in Australian colours, he just seemed unstoppable. He was seen at his very best in Australia’s limited over matches against India.

He collected some terrific fifties in his bag and pushed his team over the line. Keeping all this in mind, the all-rounder can return to his usual best any day. As he is already out of the KXIP squad, CSK might show interest in picking him up soon.
