5 players who are irregular in ODI team but sealed World Cup berth
A few players made the cut to the showpiece event on the basis of their ODI experience despite not playing for the national team in the recent past.
3. Wahab Riaz – Pakistan
The cricketer from Lahore is one of the finest exponents of fast bowling, as he can trouble the batsmen with his raw pace. Wahab Riaz represented the Pakistan team in white ball cricket for the first time in 2008 and since then he has played 79 ODIs. When in full flow Riaz can be a dangerous customer for the opposition. He is a player who faces either a boom or bust on the field, and that’s why he has not been a regular in the team but he has played 10 out of 17 series after the last championship.
The left-arm quickie was not part of the preliminary squad but has been added to the team to increase their bowling depth after failing miserably in the recently concluded series against England. Wahab has fished 102 scalps in his ODI career and in 2 World Cups, he has taken a total of 24 wickets. He has not played in this format after the 2017 Champions Trophy, as in his last 3 series he has leaked runs at a rate of 8. He seems to enjoy multi-nation events, and that’s why the selectors have given him a new lease of life at the last moment.
