8 Teams and their picks in IPL 2017 Auction
7. Rising Pune Supergiant
Having released most number of players ahead of the season and changed leadership appointing Steve Smith as the captain over former Indian captain MS Dhoni, Pune definitely seem eager to overturn the outcome this season. Team owner Sanjeev Goenka was pretty happy to buy England allrounder Ben Stokes for a whopping 14.5 crores which is 2.16 million USD. That made Stokes the most expensive England player in IPL history ahead of Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen who earned 1.55 million in 2009.
Their focus clearly was on signing as many utility players as possible and thus among the 9 players that they bought 4 were allrounder, RPS didn’t seem to see the need of adding any firepower in their batting line-up that already has the likes of Smith, Dhoni, Faf du Plessis, Ajinkya Rahane along with others; though towards the end they picked Manoj Tiwary for his base price of 50 lakh.
