Imran Khan made three (1 100, 2 50s) in 1983. Overall, only Javed Miandad (1992) has scored as many in a single world cup for Pakistan. Consistent – Misbah-ul-Haq has become only the 5th captain to score three consecutive half-centuries in world cups. Others: Mohammad Azharuddin (1992), Steve Waugh (1999), Graeme Smith and Ricky Ponting (2007). Boom Boom Afridi– Shahid Afridi has become the first player to hit 350 ODI SIXES. Sanath Jayasuriya is way behind with 270. A Threat to Openers– Of Mohammad Irfan’s 63 ODI wickets, 31 have been of openers. That is 49.2%. Fastest in World Cups– AB de Villiers has now equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record to ‘Fastest to 1000 World Cup Runs’, both took 20 innings to complete their 1Ks. Bang Bang AB Cricket De Villiers– de Villiers has now hit 32* sixes in world cup matches; most by any player surpassing Ricky Ponting’s 31. 9 out of 10 again– Pakistan’s left-arm pace-men took 9 of the 10 South African wickets; 2nd such instance in ODI cricket. First was achieved by the same Pakistani trio (Irfan, Wahab & Rahat) just days ago vs Zimbabwe. A First– This is the first time in four attempts that Pakistan has beaten South Africa in a world cup. Previously, they lost in 1992, 1996 and 1999. A World Cup Record – Sarfraz Ahmed took 6 catches behind the stumps equaling Adam Gilchrist’s world cup record against Namibia in 2003. Overall, 7 wicket-keepers have taken six catches in an ODI innings: Adam Gilchrist (4 times), AJ Stewart, Mark Boucher, Matt Prior, M Jos Buttler, MH Cross and Sarfraz Ahmed. Sarfraz’s 6 catches were indeed best by a Pakistani wicket-keeper.
