It was a do-or-die game for Team India in the three-match series, as a pumped Australian team opted to bat first on a lovely deck at the Adelaide Oval. As the home side put up 298 runs, it left the away side a daunting target to chase, with the in-form Aussie bowlers. However, Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma put up a breezy partnership at the top scoring 47 runs in the first 8 overs setting the tempo for the run chase before Dhawan was caught by Khawaja.

Virat Kohli entered the crease with expectations with Rohit also finding his groove. However, the latter’s wicket put Australia ahead in the game and the visitors were in need of a decent partnership. Ambati Rayudu walked in and despite being scratchy, rode his luck to bring India back in the reckoning along with his skipper.

Glenn Maxwell’s choice of words at Rayudu:

An in-form Virat Kohli on one end, with Ambati Rayudu on the other, the signs were ominous for the visitors. The duo picked up the gaps and ran pretty hard before all-rounder Glenn Maxwell brought the downfall of India’s number four. Ambati Rayudu, trying to slog the offie out to the cow corner, chipped the ball straight to hands off Marcus Stoinis at the boundary in the 31st over of the innings. After creating multiple chances to break the partnership, it was Maxwell who brought the dismissal for the home team.

However, it was followed by an earful from the all-rounder to the Indian batsman Rayudu for reasons unknown. After the initial send-off words, Maxwell broke the huddle to give the right-handed batsman a few more of the choicest words. Australia were back in the game then but with the words directed towards the opponent batsman might put Maxwell in trouble now.

Having said that, the Men in Blue managed to win the game in the end with MS Dhoni and Dinesh karthik keeping their nerves until the last over.
