The Docklands Stadium, which was all set to host all Melbourne finals in the 2018-19 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) had to be evacuated a few hours before the encounter. Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars had a few scares before the final, as the teams were sent to Bourke Street after a smoke alarm went off.

To the delight of the teams, the alarm was just a false one that buzzed, and everything seemed to be safe at the Marvel stadium. “Most definitely a false alarm in one small section of the stadium,” a spokeswoman from Marvel Stadium was quoted as saying by The Age.

The match was played without any issues, and it was the red side of Melbourne who came up with a stunning win. After putting the Renegades to bat first in the final, the Stars bowling line-up managed to restrict their rivals to 65/5 at the end of ten overs. However, a partnership from Tom Cooper and Daniel Christian ensured that Renegades got to 145 runs at the end of the first inning.

146 runs too daunting for Melbourne Stars:

A target of 146 seemed like an easy one for the Stars, as they got off to a brilliant start. The partnership between Ben Dunk and Marcus Stoinis put the Stars on a brilliant pedestal in the first ten overs of the innings. Cameron Boyce gave the Renegades the crucial breakthrough of Stoinis, in the 13th over of the innings after the duo put up 93 runs for the first wicket.

With 52 runs required from the last 7 overs, it looked like the Stars were walking away with the BBL Trophy. However, the drama never stops in the Big Bash as Chris Tremain struck twice in two overs to put up nervousness in the Stars camp. Glenn Maxwell and Nic Maddison did not put up anything on the board as the Stars continued to struggle after a good platform.

In the end, it was the Renegades who walked away with the victory as they managed to restrict the Stars to 132/7 and winning the final by a mere 13 runs. Daniel Christian was rightly adjudged as the Man of the match for his brilliant all-round display in the contest.
