The Committee of Administrators (CoA) has fired back at Ravi Shastri for passing on the statement, “The present Indian team is the best travelling in the last 15 years”.  While the Indian team has remained invincible over the years on their home paradise and within the subcontinent, however, they lose their aura when they go out to face teams outside Asia. In England, India have never won a Test series in 2007.

The Test series against England which took place on the English soil earlier this year was a testament of India’s woes, especially on the batting front. Even though it was a closely fought contest, the scoreline suggested otherwise. Indian team has never won a Test series in Australia and South Africa and last won in New Zealand in 2009.

At a recent team meeting between the management and the CoA at Hyderabad, Ravi Shastri was quick to criticise the negative reactions from the Indian media about their players. The reactions drew sharp criticism from former the likes of Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Gavaskar. The CoA, however, wasn’t impressed with Shastri’s comment of the ‘best travelling team’ and advised him to let people pass on the judgement and not him.

“Ravi initially started off by saying that the Indian media always criticizes their own players and how this is one of the best ever teams in the last 15 years,” the BCCI official was quoted as saying by the BCCI. Shastri’s comment came on the back of Kohli’s verbal spat with a journalist in England after the team were defeated in the Test series by 4-1.

What actually happened?

When the Indian coach continued about how great the team is, one of the CoA members intervened by saying, “Let’s stick to the agenda of the meeting and discuss Australia tour policies. You don’t decide if the team is the best travelling side in the world. Let people be the judge.” Shastri and Kohli were also reminded that they are being and been given each and every facility that they need but their performance on the field must be up to the mark.

“You have been given everything – from hefty central contracts to practice facilities, support staff, whatever you guys have wanted, so it’s only fair that your performance are put in perspective and that there is nothing wrong if the BCCI expects you to win overseas,” the officials further informed on what was said.
