Team India won their last international game of the calendar year against Sri Lanka in the shortest format of the game-winning every series in the long home season. With that, indeed an incredible and defining association with their official broadcasters Star Sports has practically come to an end. Earlier, the BCCI had signed a six-year contract with Star Sports for the transmission of various matches played across the world.

Still the channel will be telecasting some of the domestic games which includes the final of the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 season and the ICC Under 19 World Cup starting in January. But as far as the international matches involving team India are concerned they won’t be advertising them until further discussions. The official rights for India’s tour of South Africa starting next year have been already brought by Sony who are pretty much excited for the programming of the event.

What next for Star Sports?

The BCCI officials have revealed that the plans for the next five years will be combined in the days to come. It could be roughly about 100 games prospected in the four-year 2019-23 FTP. The board will also be looking forward to all the major contenders for selling the rights of the season. Star Sports would also have a close eye on the bid after their successful merger with Disney recently.

It will also be interesting point on the signing amount of the next deal between BCCI and Star Sports after the biggest Indian Premier League association ever. However, the BCCI has also made their strategies for the new FTP which involves 90- matches to be precise out of which 30 are Test matches, while the rest are ODIs and T20Is. Considering the fact that majority of these Test matches would be played against teams like South Africa, Australia and England, this type of schedule would help in reducing the heavy workload on the players also.
