The ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2022) has turned out to be a good one so far with some great performances on the field and some of the budding as well as veteran cricketers including the likes of Dwayne Bravo and Shakib Al Hasan getting carried away by the Pushpa trend where they can be seen mimicking Tollywood superstar Allu Arjun. While all this was about the good part of the tournament, a sudden setback in the form of an injury to one of the country’s emerging pacers Taskin Ahmed has ended up ruling him out for the rest of the season.

One of Bangladesh’s frontline bowlers, Ahmed, will take no further part in the competition due to a back injury. This has been confirmed by his BPL team Sylhet Sunrisers. The Dhaka cricketer had also not featured in the team’s last two games because of the injury. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reportedly said that Ahmed could be available for the upcoming limited-overs series against Afghanistan starting February 23.

Enough time for Taskin Ahmed to recover ahead of the Afghanistan series, says team physio

“The physio has informed me there’s enough time for him to recover ahead of the Afghanistan series. The franchise has agreed to send him to Dhaka. He is feeling okay now and will be back to bowling possibly later this week. I think he will be ready for the ODIs”, said BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

In the four matches that he played for the Sylhet Sunrisers, Ahmed has registered five scalps averaging 23.20 and since he will be unavailable for the remainder of the tournament, the franchise has decided to replace him with AKS Swadhin.

Barring a playoff appearance in the 2013 season, the Sunrisers have always managed to finish in the league stages and they have not had a great year this time either as they continue to languish at the bottom of the BPL 2022 points table with just a solitary win from their six appearances including three points to their tally with a negative NRR of -0.784. They would be hoping to rise from the bottom as the tournament nears its business end.
