This is the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), and it has gotten bigger and better with every season. It is the best domestic T20 competition in the world, and it is tough for teams to perform consistently.

However, we have seen a few teams that have had back-to-back poor seasons in the IPL. In this article, we look at three teams with the worst consecutive performances in IPL history.

Here are three teams with worst back-to-back performance in IPL history:

2012 Season: Finished Last (9th Place)

After a mediocre debut in 2011, Pune were looking to bounce back in the 2012 season under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy. However, things didn't go as planned—Ganguly struggled with his own form, most of the batters (except Steven Smith) underperformed, and the bowling lacked depth. They ended the season at the bottom of the table with just four wins from 16 matches.

2013 Season (8th place)

PWI made changes in 2013, naming Angelo Mathews as captain before the season, but he was later replaced by Aaron Finch. The improvement was minimal—they again won only 4 out of 16 matches. Frequent captaincy changes and leadership instability affected team morale and on-field decisions.

Despite having stars like Finch, Yuvraj Singh, and Steven Smith, they were out of form. The bowling unit, which included Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kane Richardson, also struggled to defend targets. Ultimately, PWI were disbanded after the 2013 season, ending their IPL journey with only 12 wins in 46 matches across three seasons.
