Indian Premier League (IPL) auction will be back with its 2024 edition on December 19, in Dubai, and before the much-awaited event, all IPL franchises have got rid of some players who didn’t deliver the desired results to them. Most players found themselves on the release list due to their underwhelming performances while some broke into it despite doing well.

Before the massive business event in Dubai, some teams’ release lists shocked fans as these franchises dropped their main players from their future plans. However, the players might receive lucrative contracts in the upcoming auction but for a moment, every IPL supporter was shocked to see illustrious names on the release chart.

Here are three surprising releases before the 2024 IPL auction

3. Adil Rashid

Adil Rashid debuted for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in 2023. After the first game, he featured against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). In both games, he looked decent with the ball but the SRH team management benched him for the entire season after the two matches.

He ended the season with two wickets in two contests at an economy of 8.00. SRH’s decision to bench the England spinner shocked many as he had the potential to change the team's fate. After the LSG game, former India coach Anil Kumble also felt that Hyderabad did not used Rashid and Washington Sundar correctly.

After underutilising the 35-year-old in the competition, Sunrisers have not retained him for the coming season. Following this decision, SRH is drawing flak from the fans. In the past, the Hyderabad-based team has also released top players such as Rashid Khan and David Warner.
