The talk around India’s T20I batting attack has been grabbing immense attention, and many have compared Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. Currently, Gill is the all-format star and India’s current captain in Tests, ODIs, and vice-captain of the T20I team, while Kishan has been out of the international setup for over two years.

Shubman Gill vs Ishan Kishan recent form

Recently, Gill has been under immense criticism for his T20I form. Since his return to the format, he has scored just 263 runs in 14 matches at an average of 23.90, with a highest score of 47. In a post-2024 India setup that has fully taken up a fearless, impact-driven batting approach, Gill’s natural style has looked slightly out of place. Former cricketers have openly flagged his T20I form as a concern ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

In contrast, Kishan has been out of the international setup for more than two years, but he has been making headlines in domestic cricket, especially in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. As Jharkhand captain, Kishan has been brilliant both as a leader and batter. In SMAT 2025, he has hammered 318 runs in seven matches at an average of 53 and a strike rate of over 200. His scores include a 113*, 92, and a 23-ball 47 in a record chase.

Notably, Gill's success in IPL seasons, including 650 runs in IPL 2025 and the historic 890-run campaign in 2023, shows he can dominate T20 cricket. But for India, he hasn't fired in the shorter format, which was expected of him. On the other hand, Kishan is more of a natural aggressor. His domestic and franchise form shows he is far better balanced with India’s current T20 philosophy.
