As teams are heading towards the IPL mini-auction 2022, all the franchises have submitted their retention list for the 2023 season of the competition. The retention list threw a lot of surprises as many big names weren't retained by their teams. Kane Williamson, Jason Holder, and Mayank Agarwal among others were not retained by their respective franchises despite their reputation and past performances.

With some of the biggest names not getting retained due to their non-performances, it can be said that the warning bell is ringing for those players who got retained this year without delivering any impactful performances in the past season.

The players who got retained despite their underwhelming performances were fortunate to get another chance from their teams but for the next edition, there will be pressure on them to be assiduous and provide solid figures.

Team-wise one player who was lucky to be retained:

1. Anuj Rawat (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Youngster Anuj Rawat became a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last edition of the tournament, and he was assigned the task to provide fierce starts to the team alongside his skipper Faf du Plessis. Starting off up front alongside the South African legend could’ve benefitted Rawat as an opener and a player.

But after looking at his underwhelming numbers in the whole season, it could be said that the young gun has to learn a lot from his captain to become successful in the future. In eight matches of the tournament's last edition, Rawat could amass only 129 runs at an unhealthy average of 16.13.

Despite his extremely poor batting display, RCB’s faith in him has remained intact as the franchise will go ahead with him in the 2023 edition. His name in the retention list is a surprise for many.
