Certain players were in top form in the inaugural season of the Women's Premier League.
7. Yastika Bhatia (wk)
Yastika Bhatia is one the dependable wicketkeeper-batters in Indian cricket. She has done a decent job for the Women in Blue in the ODIs and scored 478 runs in 19 matches at a strike rate average of 26.55. The 22-year-old was phenomenal in the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy 2022 and notched up 203 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 134.43.
Mumbai Indians showed faith in Yastika and signed her at the WPL 2023 auction for INR 1.5 crore. Mumbai’s investment bore fruit and the youngster was outstanding in the T20 extravaganza and smashed 214 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 112.04.
Besides her batting credentials, she was also sharp with her glovework. Courtesy of her exploits on the cricket field, the wicketkeeper-batter was handed the ‘Emerging Player of the season’ award.
One of Yastika’s prominent knocks in WPL 2023 came against UP Warriorz in the 10th match of the tournament. She took the attack to the opposition from ball one and smashed 42 runs off 27 deliveries. The Indian batter would look to carry on the good work for the Mumbai franchise in the coming seasons.
