Cricket Australia to probe into Moeen Ali's accusations of racial abuse

The ongoing year hasn’t been memorable for Australian cricket by any stretch of the imagination. Three of their players- David Warner, Steve Smith, and Cameron Bancroft- got involved in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa after which they were slapped with bans. To add insult to injury, the team hasn’t been able to win a single match ever since the shambolic incident.

The situation of their cricket may land into further doldrums for the fact that Moeen Ali, England’s all-round cricketer, has alleged racial abuse by one Australian cricketer in his autobiography. The Birmingham-born cricketer mentioned that the player referred him as ‘Osama Bin Laden’, the founder of militant organisation Al Qaeda, during the 2015 Ashes in England.

After complaining about the same, the Aussie dismissed the accusations. However, Cricket Australia (CA) is set to investigate into the grave matter. “Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and have no place in our sport, or in society. We have a clear set of values and behaviours that comes with representing our country,” a CA spokesperson was quoted as saying in BBC Sport.

“We take this matter very seriously, and are following up with the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) as a matter of urgency to seek further clarification around the alleged incident,” the official added.

Previously, Moeen also mentioned that he has no respect for the Australian team whatsoever and has no sympathies for the three tainted cricketers from the Cape Town-scandal in March. Australian cricket is known for employing undesired tactics on the cricket pitch, an attribute which has been a recipient of severe criticism from the cricketing fraternity and their supporters.

Australia are scheduled to next play Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where they will take part in a couple of Tests followed by three T20Is.
