Punjab Kings' batter Shashank Singh is someone who takes his fitness very seriously. When it comes to fitness, the aggressive right-handed batter looks up to former India captain Virat Kohli. The latter transformed himself physically and mentally in the nascent years of his career, shedding several kilos after combining a strict diet with a rigorous training regimen.

While getting leaner, Kohli became fitter and more agile. Even at the age of 36, Kohli continues to be one of the best fielders in world cricket. He loves challenging himself, standing in busy areas while fielding, and always anticipating balls to come in his direction.

Shashank, 33, explained how Kohli works day and night like a machine during an exclusive interview with CricTracker. The former believes that focusing on his fitness goals is something that drives the legendary cricketer.

"If we talk about work ethic, Virat bhai is someone I have seen and heard about from a lot of friends who are playing in India. When I ask them, his work ethic, his practice schedule, his training schedule, his mindset, I think that is what keeps him ahead," Shashank said.

"He is like a machine. He works like a machine. He works day and night. I think that is what drives him," the 33-year-old added.

Kohli retired from Test cricket after playing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia earlier this year. He had a brilliant season for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing a crucial role in helping the franchise win the coveted title for the first time in 18 years. Kohli finished the season as the third-highest run-getter, amassing 657 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.75.

Kohli is not playing the ongoing Asia Cup as he retired from T20I cricket last year. The seasoned campaigner is expected to return to the national team during India's three-match ODI tour of Australia in October. The three games will be played in Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney on October 19, 23, and 25, respectively.
