The draft of the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League is expected to be a star-studded affair with a plethora of crowd-pullers from all over the world set to throw their hat in the ring. On Wednesday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released an initial list of the Platinum players for the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

And, if all goes well, we could be in for a fascinating duel between No.1 ranked T20I batsman, Babar Azam and the greatest fast bowler of the 21st century- the one and only South African tearaway fast bowler- Dale Steyn.

The South African bolter, who retired from Test cricket following a slew of injuries in a bid to concentrate on the shorter formats of the game and prolong his celebrated career is among the 28 International superstars who have registered in the category for next year’s event.

‘I am excited’- Dale Steyn

This is the first time that Dale Steyn has thrown his hat into the ring of the Pakistan Super League, testifying the growing stature of the franchise-based league since its inception back in 2016. If picked, Steyn could travel to Pakistan for the first time since 2007 when he went on South Africa’s tour to the terror-savaged nation.

And, fans will be hoping that they can see another duel between Babar Azam and the champion fast bowler. The duel between Steyn and Babar Azam hit global headlines during the Men in Green last tour of South Africa when the current T20 captain of Pakistan struck the champion fast bowler for ten boundaries within a space of 31 balls at Supersport Park in Centurion.

The stylish right-hander backed it up with five boundaries in another 29 balls in the succeeding Test at Newlands in Cape Town, taking the overall tally to 16 fours in just 66 balls. Steyn seemed pretty excited to be part of the draft pool, where he said, “Cricket means the world to Pakistani fans and I am excited that I will get to be a part of the HBL Pakistan Super League draft pool.”

The registration window for the foreign players is still open and closes on November 21, following which an updated list will be released.
