Star all-rounder Cameron Green suffered low-grade side soreness, and this has ruled him out of the entire ODI series against India to rehabilitate before Western Australia's next Sheffield Shield match against South Australia, starting on October 28.

Australia decided to pick Marnus Labuschagne as Green's replacement in the squad for the three ODIs against India, commencing on Sunday, October 19, at the Perth Stadium. The right-handed batter will fly from Adelaide after the Sheffield Shield match on Saturday night to join Australia's squad.

Green had only just returned to bowling in competitive cricket following back surgery last year, and missed the T20I tour of New Zealand to play in the opening Shield round for Western Australia against New South Wales in Perth last week.

The Perth-born was set to bowl eight overs in the match but only bowled four, and accounted for a solitary wicket. Green was not cleared to bowl on consecutive days by Cricket Australia's medical staff when Western Australia were unable to bat long enough in their first innings to give him a full day's rest between four-over spells.

Green wasn't expected to bowl in the ODIs against India. He would have only played the first two matches before being rested for the third. He was also not going to play the subsequent five-match T20I series, participating in Sheffield Shield matches instead.

The Aussies have been struggling with injuries ahead of their white-ball series against India. They are already missing the services of skipper Pat Cummins. Josh Inglis is also ruled out of at least the first two matches.

Meanwhile, Adam Zampa is missing the Perth ODI as he is on paternity leave. Moreover, Alex Carey has also decided to play in the Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and Queensland in Adelaide as part of his Ashes preparation. The wicketkeeper-batter will also miss the ODI series.

Labuschagne, who was dropped from the ODI side due to a run of poor form for over 12 months, has made a comeback after registering four centuries in five domestic innings. The 31-year-old has 1871 runs from 66 ODIs at an average of 34.65, including 12 fifties and two centuries.
