AUS vs SA 2025: Australia vs South Africa, 2nd ODI Match Preview
A win would mean a series victory for the Proteas.
After an emphatic 98-run victory in the opener, South Africa (SA) will be facing the hosts Australia (AUS) once again in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay on Friday, August 22.
Australia had their moments of brilliance in the first match of the series, but lost the plot during the chase, as their middle order failed to put up a show when it mattered the most. Captain Mitchell Marsh was the lone performer for the side in a failed run chase, and he will be hoping for his men to step up and contribute in tandem to make a comeback in the series.
Proteas, on the other hand, were brilliant across departments in the series opener. The top-order set the perfect platform, while the middle-order pounced onto the occasion and set a humble target for the Aussies. In the second innings, star spinner Keshav Maharaj bagged a brilliant five-wicket haul to restrict Marsh & Co. from getting anywhere near to the target. The South African side will be hoping to seal the series with a win in this clash.

Pitch Report
The Great Barrier Reef Arena will make a comeback to international men's cricket after more than three decades. The first and the only match played here came during the encounter between India and Sri Lanka in the 1992 World Cup, which too was abandoned after just a couple of balls were bowled. Rain is likely to remain away, with only 15 per cent chances of precipitation on the forecast. Since the surface is fresh and not a lot is known, it would be better to bowl first on such a pitch.
