Former Pakistan T20I skipper Mohammad Rizwan has joined St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for the remainder of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. The wicketkeeper-batter replaces Fazalhaq Farooqi, who will link up with Afghanistan ahead of their tri-series in the UAE involving Pakistan and the UAE.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the signing is expected to be officially confirmed by the league within the next 24 hours. It remains unclear whether Rizwan will be available for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ clash against the Barbados Royals on Thursday, August 21. However, with Pakistan leaving him out of both the Asia Cup and the upcoming UAE tri-series, Rizwan has been cleared to feature in the CPL without any national team commitments.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC), considered a formality in this case. This will mark Rizwan’s maiden appearance in the CPL, adding him to a growing list of Pakistan players taking part in the competition.

Earlier, it was announced that leg-spinner Usama Mir would represent Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ squad already includes two Pakistan fast bowlers, Naseem Shah and Abbas Afridi. Elsewhere, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, and Salman Irshad are also featuring in this year’s tournament which strengthen Pakistan’s presence in the league.

Rizwan’s signing also means he will have fulfilled the maximum two overseas T20 league stints allowed for centrally contracted Pakistan players within a 12-month period starting July. Earlier this year, he was confirmed as a marquee signing for the Melbourne Renegades in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL).

Meanwhile, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have endured a mixed start to their campaign. After opening with a win, they slipped to three successive defeats and currently sit second from the bottom of the CPL points table. The franchise, which previously won the title in 2017 and 2021, will be aiming to spark a turnaround in the current campaign.
