England captain Harry Brook praised his side’s efforts at the 2026 T20 World Cup following their exit from the competition at the hands of India in the semi-final stage on Thursday, March 5, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Brook, who led his team from the front by scoring 235 runs in the tournament, was proud of how his team has played in the tournament and believes the squad is good enough to carry the momentum going forward. Despite a monumental task of chasing 254, England were in the game right up until the final over where they eventually fell short by a mere seven runs.

“Disappointed, but extremely proud. Couldn't ask for much more as a captain to be honest. We haven't been out of any game in this competition all the way until the last over. I'm extremely proud of the way the boys have stuck to their guns," Brook was quoted as saying on ICC's website.

“They've done everything that we've asked of them. We've got some extremely good players in there, some extremely tough characters as well, to play some of the innings that we have done in this competition and deliver some of the overs that we have done as well. We've had a very good campaign and unfortunately it's not paid off tonight.”

England showed improvement at the T20 World Cup

It is worth mentioning that this was Brook’s first time in charge of the England side at a major ICC tournament. The Three Lions have had some underwhelming displays in recent tournaments post their 2022 T20 World Cup triumph in Australia.

Under the captaincy of Jos Buttler, England had disappointing campaigns at the 2023 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy, falling out in the group stages. They did reach the semi-finals at the 2024 T20 World Cup but were a shadow of their former all-conquering self.

However, with the promise the likes of Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Rehan Ahmed and Brook himself have shown in recent times, it suggests England are on an upward trajectory as far as white-ball cricket is concerned.
