Netflix director Raghav Khanna has wrapped up the production of 'Unbroken: The Unmukt Chand Story', a docuseries about India's Under-19 World Cup-winning skipper, Unmukt Chand.

Unmukt, once considered Indian cricket’s next big superstar after leading the nation to the 2012 Under-19 World Cup title with a match-winning century. But his career didn’t follow the path most expected. After early success with Delhi Daredevils and India A, he went to face rejection in domestic circuits and ultimately retired from Indian cricket at just 28.

The docuseries, directed by Khanna and produced by Riverland Entertainment and Tudip Entertainment, is set to release soon. While the official platform hasn’t been revealed, there are high expectations, given Khanna’s previous works like The Elephant Whisperers and The Hunt for Veerappan under Netflix.

“Looking back, life has been a rollercoaster, from winning the Under-19 World Cup to retiring from India at just 28 years of age. From being a poster boy to being trolled and then forgotten – I have lived in the extremities of public opinion. When Raghav told me about the documentary, at first I was hesitant but the experience of filming the documentary with him was cathartic and it made me look at my own story from a new perspective. I feel it’s a story that will resonate with many people who do not get what they want but are still determined enough to keep pursuing their path," Chand said as quoted by Variety.

His journey reflects the unforgiving nature of professional sports: Raghav Khanna

The project is set to bring veteran producers Dipti Agrawal and Tushar Apshankar on board, with Khanna also playing the role of producer alongside co-producer Priyanka Chaudhari. Khanna expressed his excitement to share the cricketer's story.

“What drew me to Unmukt’s story was the sharp contrast between his potential and the outcome – the inversion from being hailed as Indian cricket’s next big superstar to being shunned into obscurity. His journey reflects on the competitive and unforgiving nature of professional sports, and perhaps of life itself, where a single moment – often beyond our control, can undo years of hard work and aspiration. At its core, this is a film about broken dreams, second chances, and the grace it takes to start over,” Khanna said.

Currently, Unmukt plays for the Los Angeles Knight Riders in America's Major League Cricket and has found a second chance with cricket on foreign soil. After struggling in earlier MLC seasons, he has bounced back with 243 runs in seven matches in 2025, currently among the league’s top scorers.
