ENG vs IND 2025: Shoaib Bashir ruled out of remainder of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir has been ruled out of the remainder of the five-match England-India Test series after sustaining a fracture to a finger in his left hand.
England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir will not be available to play the final two Test matches of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 after breaking a finger on his left hand while attempting a catch off his own bowling in the Lord’s Test.
The 21-year-old suffered the injury on Day 3 of the third Test as he tried to take a return catch to dismiss Ravindra Jadeja in the 78th over of India's first innings. Bashir had to walk off the field to receive treatment. He didn't come out to field for the rest of the day as Joe Root bowled 10.1 overs.
Bashir did come out to bat in England's second innings at his normal No. 11 position. He faced nine balls and scored two runs, getting dismissed by fellow off-spinner Washington Sundar. Bashir remained off the field for most parts of Day 5 before he was asked to bowl in the latter half of the day, when the Indian lower-order batters were beginning to frustrate the England seamers.
Bashir also looked in serious discomfort while trying to stop a ball from going to the boundary in the deep. His left hand was heavily strapped.
With the ball, Bashir bagged the final wicket of Mohammed Siraj to finish with figures of 1/6 in 5.5 overs. He bowled the least number of overs by an England bowler on Day 5 apart from Joe Root.

Bashir has been preferred by England to play the role of the frontline spinner over the last couple of years. He has kept fellow Somerset teammate Jack Leach out of the side. However, the veteran left-arm spinner could return to the setup after Bashir's injury. The likes of Rehan Ahmed, Liam Dawson, and Tom Hartley are also in contention to be picked in the lineup for the last two Test matches. England lead the series 2-1 with the last two Tests set to be played in Manchester and London.
