The England Women’s team has faced a massive setback as one of their star batter, Heather Knight, has suffered a devastating hamstring injury, sustained in the last game against the West Indies Women, which has ruled her out of the home summer.

Knight played a match-winning knock of 66 off 47 deliveries in the third T20I at Chelmsford. Though it was a great innings by the former England Women’s skipper, she was visibly struggling with her hamstring towards the end of the first innings and was not seen on the field during the second innings of the match.

According to reports, the extent of her injury was revealed in a subsequent MRI scan, which has also raised questions about her availability for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup. The ECB has released a statement confirming that there is no set return date, though they are still hopeful she will be fully fit and available for selection for the tournament this September.

“Although no return date can be set at this stage, it is hoped Heather will be available for selection for the ICC Women's World Cup in September 2025,” said the ECB in a statement.

It was fun whilst it lasted: Knight

Knight opened up about the recent news of her injury through an Instagram post, where she expressed her disappointment at missing the upcoming Hundred and the entire summer. However, she has still kept her hopes alive for the Women’s ODI World Cup, which will take place in India.

“It was fun whilst it lasted. Unfortunately, I've damaged my right hamstring tendon pretty badly and I'll miss the rest of the international summer and the Hundred, but I've got the World Cup in my sights. Pretty gutted, it's not the best timing, but I'll be doing everything I can to get back asap. I've been here before and I'll face this head on, like all the challenges I've had in my career,” the former England Women's skipper posted on Instagram.
