George Thomas commits to Worcestershire on two-year contract

Worcestershire County Cricket Club has secured all-rounder George Thomas on a two-year contract ahead of the 2027 season. The 22-year-old will be available for all formats of cricket as the County builds its squad for the coming years. Thomas moves to Worcestershire after spending time with Sussex County Cricket Club, which he joined in March 2025.

Thomas brings experience across multiple formats to his new County. In his List A career, he has accumulated 649 runs with a top score of 106 not-out across 26 appearances. During the summer of 2026 Vitality T20 Blast group stage, he demonstrated his ability to score quickly in the shorter format. Across all formats, Thomas has made 39 appearances and established himself as a developing talent in English county cricket.

"It is a really exciting opportunity for me to develop my career at Worcestershire across all formats and hopefully kick onto the next level. The Club is in a really good place and are building for the future with an ambition to win trophies, which is a big motivation for me. I feel like I have a lot to offer in both red ball and white ball cricket, so I am really looking forward to getting started with the group," Thomas told the Club.

England age-group experience and early county career

The 22-year-old is a right-handed batter and right-arm medium bowler who represented England at the Under-19 level. He made a couple of half-centuries for England as they reached the final of the Under-19 World Cup in 2022, opening the batting throughout the tournament. Thomas began his List A career with Somerset in August 2021, gaining experience in one-day cricket before moving to Sussex in March 2025. His progression through the age-group system and early county career demonstrated the potential that attracted Worcestershire's attention.

Signing someone like George, a young, talented cricketer who is available for all three formats and is eager to better himself, only helps us moving forward. The signing represents a fresh opportunity for Thomas to develop his career at a County with clear ambitions. Worcestershire have brought in the young all-rounder as part of their plans to build for the future across both red ball and white ball cricket. Thomas will now look to establish himself as a key player in the County's squad as he enters the next phase of his career.

He has a really dynamic attacking game which he has shown in white ball cricket and has all the skills to develop in the longer format too.
