'I will always be in yellow' - MS Dhoni reaffirms his long-term commitment to CSK
“Me and CSK, we are together. You know even for the next 15-20 years (crowd cheers). I hope they don't think I'll be playing for another 15-20 years," said Dhoni.
Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has opened up regarding his future with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He reaffirmed his long-term commitment to the franchise, describing his association with CSK as a lasting and meaningful one.
Dhoni has been an integral part of the five-time champions since the IPL's inaugural season in 2008, guiding them through numerous successful campaigns. In the 2025 season, he assumed the captaincy once again following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s withdrawal due to an elbow injury. The season, however, turned out to be a difficult one for the franchise, with CSK finishing at the bottom of the points table for the first time in their history, securing only four wins from 14 matches.
Despite the disappointing performance, Dhoni's recent remarks are being seen as a signal of his continued involvement with the franchise beyond his playing days.
“Me and CSK, we are together. You know even for the next 15-20 years (crowd cheers). I hope they don't think I'll be playing for another 15-20 years! But yeah,” Dhoni said in a private event in Chennai as quoted by Hindustan Times.

There had been speculation that the 44-year-old might step away from the game following the IPL 2024 season. However, Dhoni made a strong recovery from his knee issue and continued playing. He has also indicated that Gaikwad will return and resume his role as captain for the franchise.
“It's not about one year or two years. I will always be sitting in a yellow jersey. You know whether I’ll be playing or not in a while, but yeah, you know yourself,” Dhoni added.

At a separate event, Dhoni had previously avoided giving a direct response when asked about his playing future. During that event, he was more forthcoming while reflecting on CSK’s disappointing season and discussing the road ahead for the franchise.
“Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. We have not been up to the mark. But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong? And that was the question for us last year also,” Dhoni said.
