'I'm really excited for the next chapter' - Heather Knight on changes in England Women's team
Knight was removed from the England captaincy after a debacle in the Women's Ashes against Australia.
England Women have been facing a lot of scrutiny after their performances last season. The Three Lionesses crashed out of the Women’s T20 World Cup and endured one of the most disappointing Women’s Ashes campaigns, suffering a 16–0 loss. These poor performances led to Heather Knight being removed after a nine-year stint as England Women’s captain.
The ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) appointed Nat Sciver-Brunt to mark a new chapter in England Women’s cricket. Heather Knight stated that she is excited about this new phase in her career. She also mentioned that she has had enough time to process the events and is looking to move forward after the challenges she has faced.
“There’s been a lot of change. I really enjoyed it [captaincy], but I’m really excited for the next chapter as well. I’ve had a bit of time to let the news digest, but I’m quite excited for what’s to come—having a little bit more time on my hands and to be one of the girls again. I’m feeling pretty positive and looking forward to moving on,” Knight said as per the BBC at the opening of new cricket facilities by IG and the ECB in Kingston.

I try to take what I can from situations: Knight
Furthermore, Heather Knight was also asked about the Women’s Ashes and how she coped after the disappointing series. She acknowledged that it was a tough campaign but emphasised how such experiences teach valuable lessons and help players improve in the future.
“That’s probably one of my strengths, I try to take what I can from situations and look forward with what I can do to get better. It was a tough series, no beating around the bush, but they’re the series where you learn the most about yourself and get that hunger to be better and turn things around,” the 2017 Women’s World Cup winner added.
“I’ve had a long career now; you get those peaks and troughs, the low moments that drive you. It’s certainly going to be a motivator to keep pushing forward and get better as individuals and as a side,” Knight concluded.
