India continued their dominant run in the ongoing Test series against West Indies, closing Day 2 of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on top. After centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill guided the hosts to 518/5 declared, the visitors showed some fight with the bat but still ended the day at 140/4, trailing by 378 runs.

Coming into the second Test after a win in Ahmedabad, India, once again began well. Jaiswal, resuming from his overnight score of 173, looked to reach a double century before a mix-up with Gill resulted in his run-out for 175. Despite the unfortunate dismissal, the day turned into another display of India’s batting brillaince.

Sai Sudharsan's 87 and contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy (43) and Dhruv Jurel (44) complemented Gill’s hundred. The Indian skipper brought up his 10th Test century, finishing unbeaten on 129 before declaring midway through the day. Jomel Warrican was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies, bagging three wickets, while Roston Chase managed one.

In response, the West Indies showed a better effort compared to Ahmedabad. After John Campbell’s unlucky dismissal, his sweep shot rebounding off Sai Sudharsan’s helmet to be caught, Tagenarine Chanderpaul (34) and Alick Athanaze (41) stabilized the innings with a 66-run stand. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav struck back, triggering another mini-collapse. Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers with 3/37, putting pressure throughout his 14-over spell, while Kuldeep chipped in with one. At stumps, Shai Hope (31*) and Tevin Imlach (14*) were playing hard to take the game into Day 3.

"I always try to play as long as I can. If I'm there, I should just take the game forward and play as long as I can. It's (his run-out) part of the game, so it's fine. There is always a thought that what I can achieve and what can be my goal and my team's goal, I just try and be in the game and make sure if I'm in, I should take it long. I was trying to get in, so there was a bit of movement, but when I was in the middle, I was thinking that maybe I'll bat for one hour and then it will be easy for me to score. The wicket is still pretty good, we are bowling very well, we will be seeing as quickly as we can get to them and get them again," Jaiswal said after the day's play.
