IND vs WI 2025: 'World cricket needs you' - Gautam Gambhir visits West Indies dressing room post Delhi Test to share words of wisdom

India completed a 2-0 series sweep over the West Indies after a clinical seven-wicket win in the Delhi Test. Following the victory, head coach Gautam Gambhir visited the West Indies dressing room upon head coach Darren Sammy's invitation to speak to the visiting team members. 

The hosts wrapped up the final Test in just over an hour on the fifth morning, chasing down 121 runs to secure a 2-0 series win. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 58, while Shubman Gill’s team continued their dominance over the Caribbean team, making this their tenth consecutive Test victory against them.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (175) and Gill's (129*) efforts helped the team post a massive score in the first innings. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav’s 12 wickets across the two innings earned him the Player of the Match award. Ravindra Jadeja was named Player of the Series for his all-round contribution. 

Despite the loss, the West Indies earned admiration for their second-innings display, where John Campbell (115) and Shai Hope (103) hit centuries to take their team to 390 after being forced to follow on. Their fight drew praise from Gambhir, who chose to praise their character rather than focus solely on the result. 

"I think for me, I think the most important thing I was telling Darren this as well, that the way you guys carry yourself on and off the field as well. I think it's a great learning the way you guys carry yourself off the field, your humility, your humbleness is something that my team and a lot of teams across the globe has to learn from. (0:56) I think being absolutely ruthless on the field, but away off the field, I think you guys are great role models," he said in a video shared by BCCI.

You've got the opportunity to do something special: Gambhir

He further revealed that World Cricket needs West Indies cricket and stated that whenever they wear their Test jersey, they have the opportunity to do something magical, which the T20 format doesn't bring. 

"I want to say one thing and that is something which I've always believed in. You might feel that I'm saying it just for the heck of it but this comes straight from the heart. Western cricket doesn't need world cricket. World cricket needs western cricket. Remember that. World cricket needs western cricket. And a good, solid test team, test nation is a solid cricketing nation. It's not the other way around. So when you wear that jersey, remember, I think you've got the opportunity to do something special which not a lot of players who play in T20 format has," he added.\
