India's Test tour of Sri Lanka to be conducted between August 15 and 27
The two-match series is part of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
India’s away Test series against Sri Lanka is set to be played in the second half of August, with the exact dates yet to be confirmed. The two-match series is part of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has identified a two-week window to schedule the games.
The Test series will follow the 2026 Lankan Premier League, which is set to culminate on August 9. Information regarding the same has been conveyed to all concerned stakeholders, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian team
As reported by Cricbuzz, sources from SLC and the BCCI have stated that the matches are to be that the games are to be played between August 15 and August 27. However, there is no confirmation on the three T20Is which were to be added to the tour.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has travelled to Sri Lanka as part of an ICC delegation to assess the situation surrounding the dissolution of Sri Lanka Cricket by the country’s government. They have appointed an interim body, the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee.
There is hope that the committee would take up this matter with the BCCI Secretary, but fitting the series into the calendar would be difficult due to India’s significant international assignments in September. The series was supposed to be played as a fundraiser for victims of November 2025’s Cyclone Ditwah, which killed over 600 people in the country.
India are set to play a white-ball series in Bangladesh in September, comprising three T20Is and ODIs each. There is uncertainty whether the tour would take place, with Saikia refusing to speak on whether it would go ahead, choosing to focus on the immediate series.
The tour is a rescheduled series from the previous year, which did not take place due to tensions between the two countries being at an all-time high. With the diplomatic concerns slowly cooling down, it remains to be seen whether this series will take place eventually.
The Bangladesh tour will be followed by a home white-ball series against the West Indies, which could overlap with the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, which is to be played from September 25 to October 3. In between all this, India have to play three T20Is against Afghanistan in the UAE.
India start their international commitments with a one-off Test against Afghanistan on June 6 at Mullanpur, which will be followed by three ODIs, after which they will head to Ireland, England and Zimbabwe before the Test series against Sri Lanka.
