Star Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga's arrival in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to be delayed further. Hasaranga was acquired by 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 1.50 crore in the IPL 2024 mini auction. The Sri Lankan T20I skipper is Hyderabad's main overseas spinner. Meanwhile, they are relying on Indian spin options Mayank Markande and Shahbaz Ahmed.

Hasaranga's manager has confirmed that the 26-year-old will join the SRH squad sooner than later. However, he did not mention the exact time frame the premier spinner is expected to arrive.

"He (Hasaranga) will join sooner than later. All I can say is he will definitely join the team," Hasaranga's manager told Cricbuzz on March 29.

His manager dismissed the speculations of the cricketer not looking to play for the Hyderabad-based franchise as his paycheck is very low compared to INR 10.50 crore, which he got at RCB, his previous franchise.

"If money was a factor, we could have enrolled for an INR 2 crore base price. Besides, fewer games mean less money. He has to take care of his ankle. He is also the captain of the national team. He will join for sure, he wants to enjoy the IPL. We are in touch with the franchise," the manager added.

For the unreversed, Hasaranga missed the first two games of SRH after struggling with chronic pain in his left heel. He is expected to fly to Dubai to undergo a medical examination on Sunday, March 31, for the persistent issue in the left ankle.

Notably, Hasaranga played Sri Lanka's recent white-ball matches against Bangladesh despite experiencing pain. However, Sri Lanka Cricket's medical team evaluated him and advised seeking further medical advice for his injury. Moreover, he was suspended from playing the two-match Test series against Bangladesh after the white-ball series for breaching ICC's code of conduct, for showing dissent against the umpire's decision.
