Ireland now looking to win series, not just one-off games: Gary Wilson
The two teams last faced off in an ODI series, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Ireland are set to cross swords against the West Indies in a three-match T20I series, starting June 12. Ahead of the much-anticipated series, the Irish side will aim to make the opportunity count by clinching a win. Although they have been winning games here and there, a series win would be a sweeter note to mark the commencement of their redemption era.
Meanwhile, the batting and wicketkeeping coach Gary Wilson has opened up on Ireland's aspirations from the series against the two-time T20 World Cup-winners, saying that they hold a decent record against them. The Ireland team had played an ODI series against the West Indies from May 21 to May 25. The series ended in a 1-1 draw, with one game being called off due to rain.
“We have had a decent record against the West Indies over the past number of years, and it's a great place to play cricket here. The locals really get behind it. It's a hotbed of Irish cricket, obviously we know how good they are in this form of cricket - it's definitely the format they feel most comfortable in, but we're looking forward to the challenge and hopefully the weather plays ball,” Wilson said as quoted by the BBC.
“We've shown a big ability to get big results, especially on the global stage over the last number of years, now we're looking to put that into series wins rather than one-off games,” Wilson added.
The aspiration is to win the series: Mark Adair
While the West Indies team struggled in their last T20I series against England, experienced Irish pacer Mark Adair has still claimed that they have a lot of exciting players within the ranks and are still among the best teams in the world. In line with Wilson, the speedster also seemed to be concentrating on finding ways to win the highly-anticipated T20I series.
"They're one of the best teams in the world, in my opinion. I think they've got some of the most exciting cricketers and are one of the most entertaining teams to watch. This is a fresh challenge, and we'll get after it. Hopefully, we can do the business. The aspiration is to win the series. I think we match up pretty well, and I'm looking forward to getting back out there," Adair said.
