On Monday, January 23, a court in Kolkata ordered the Indian pacer Mohammed Shami to pay his former wife Hasin Jahan a sum of INR 1.30 lakh in alimony every month. A personal alimony payment of INR 50,000 would be made to Hasin Jahan out of the total of INR 1.30 lakh, and the remaining INR 80,000 will be used to pay for the upkeep of their daughter, who is living with her.

In 2018, Hasin Jahan filed a lawsuit in court seeking INR 10 lakh per month in alimony payments, of which Rs 7,00,000 would go towards her own support and the remainder INR 3,00,000 towards their daughter's upkeeping. Her attorney Mriganka Mistry explained to the court that the Indian pacer's annual income for the fiscal year 2020–21 was over INR 7 crore and that the demand for a monthly alimony payment of INR 10 lakhs was thus not unreasonable.

Selim Rahman, the attorney for Shami, said that Hasin Jahan's demand for such a significant sum of alimony was unjustified, because she had a reliable source of income from her employment as a professional fashion model.

Finally, the lower court set the monthly alimony payment at INR 1.30 lakh on Monday after hearing from both parties. Hasin Jahan acknowledged her gratitude for the court's order, but asserted that a bigger alimony payment would have made her feel more relieved. The Indian pacer did not respond to this count till the report was submitted.

Hasin Jahan launched a stealth attack on Shami, who wasn't in the Indian team, after the Indian side beat Pakistan in the Asia Cup in September of last year. She did this by posting a picture of Hardik Pandya, who finished the chase off with a six and led India to a victory against the arch-rivals.

“Congratulations. A memorable victory. Thanks to our Tigers for helping the country win. This had to happen; the country’s reputation and honour are protected by honest patriots rather than criminals and womanisers,” she had captioned her post.
