Legal notice to be served to Royal Challengers Bengaluru after IPL 2025 stampede tragedy
"Notices will be sent to key stakeholders to join the inquiry. The investigation will be completed within 15 days," said Jagadeesha.
The Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner, G. Jagadeesha, has announced that notices will be issued to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) management, the event organisers, and City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda. Jagadeesha is heading the magisterial inquiry into the tragic stampede that occurred near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The incident took place during the RCB victory celebrations on Wednesday, 4 June, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and leaving over 50 others injured. Jagadeesha stated that the inquiry is currently underway and refrained from commenting on who may be held responsible at this stage.
"I visited the KSCA stadium today to review the scene. Notices will be sent to key stakeholders to join the inquiry. The investigation will be completed within 15 days. I am starting the inquiry now. I will not draw conclusions at this stage," Jagadeesha told reporters as per Hindustan Times (HT).
"I have to inquire and submit a report to the government," he added.
Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesha also clarified that he was not the competent authority to grant permissions for the event, stating that the responsibility lies with the Police Commissioner. The Karnataka State Government had earlier announced a magisterial probe into the incident and assured that those accountable would be held responsible after public outrage and political criticism.
