Love the way youngsters play fearless cricket: Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer praised Team India for their bold display in the recent T20I series against Australia, securing a 4-1 victory with a thrilling win by six runs in the final match at Bangalore's M Chinnaswamy Stadium on December 3. Participating in three games, Iyer tallied 65 runs with an average of 21.67. He commended the team's fearless approach, highlighting their commendable performance on the cricketing field.

In a pivotal role in the final T20I, the 28-year-old contributed significantly, crafting 53 runs off 37 balls, comprising five fours and two sixes. This propelled India to set a formidable 161-run target for the Australians. Lauding the unyielding spirit of the young Indian cricketers, he highlighted their unwavering intensity throughout the series. In a nail-biting finish, Arshdeep Singh's composed final-over performance clinched India a thrilling six-run victory over Australia in the fifth T20I at Bengaluru. 

“It took time to acclimatize, but I have played with these boys before and they are filled with energy. So, when I entered the dressing room, I noticed everyone being in their zone and enjoying their time. I love being around them and you get to learn a lot, especially the way they play fearless cricket and the attitude that they showed right from ball one,” Shreyas was quoted as saying to Jio Cinemas.

After a recovery from a back injury, Shreyas returned for the Asia Cup, showcasing impressive form. His standout performances in the World Cup 2023 included consecutive centuries against the Netherlands and New Zealand. Anticipation now shifts to South Africa in the upcoming week, sparking curiosity about unfolding events. Speaking on his comeback and preparations, the right-handed batter said, 

“Straight after the Asia Cup, I had a set routine for myself right from Match No.1. I used to follow my programs and routines. I did not want any mis-adjustment happening in the middle. I kept things as simple as possible and not complicate things. Trainers helped me perform at the biggest stage and I carried forward the confidence in the series,” he added.
