After beating Australia in the T20I series on home soil, India will next travel to South Africa for three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests. The tour will begin on December 10 with a three-match T20I series while the ODI series will begin on December 17. The two teams will next take on each other in two Tests from December 26 which will also be a part of the World Test Championship cycle (2023-25).

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) recently announced squads for all three formats of the tour. The senior pros Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been rested from the white ball series after an exhausting World Cup campaign.

Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead the T20I side with Ravindra Jadeja as his deputy while KL Rahul has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the ODI side. The Test series will see the return of captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli as India look to gain crucial WTC points.

Notably, India are yet to win a Test series in South Africa having been beaten in every series held in the nation since 1992 barring 2010-11 when they managed to draw for the first time. Furthermore, the Men in Blue also have a dismal record in the 50-over format having won just one ODI series out of eight played in the Rainbow nation.

In T20Is, India have an upper hand having emerged victorious in three out of the four series played against South Africa in their home. Hence, India will be desperate to improve their records in the upcoming tour by winning both ODI and Test series.
