Marnus Labuschagne, once the shining star of the Australian Test team, finds himself grappling with a challenging phase of form recently. However, his teammate Mitchell Marsh has extended a reassuring pat on the back, empathizing with the no.3 batter's struggles.

Marsh drew parallels from his own experiences in the early days of his career and expressed confidence in Labuschagne's ability to bounce back strongly.

Since his breakthrough in 2019, Labuschagne has been a vital asset for the Australian Test squad. However, his recent struggles have been evident, with only one century and six half-centuries in his last 17 Tests. His recent form has been even worse, with mere 22 runs in his last six innings, crossing the double-digit mark only once. The 29-year-old's alarming dip in form has raised concerns.

Addressing Labuschagne's lean patch, Mitchell Marsh extended a hand of support, drawing from his own experiences.

“I said to him, Welcome to my first 35 Tests mate, that was me. He’s been an incredible player for us, and he will be for a long time to come. I think the good thing about our team is that we’ve always found a way to keep winning," Marsh said on SEN WA Breakfast show.

The all-rounder understands the challenges of sustaining consistent performance at the highest level and believes Labuschagne's class will ultimately shine through. The senior pro firmly backed his teammate, highlighting his importance to the Australian setup.

“You know, guys’ form goes up and down, but he’s an incredible player. He’s an integral part of our team and there’s no doubt he’ll be in the runs soon,” Marsh asserted.

Australian captain Pat Cummins backs the struggling number three batter.

“I think he’d be the first to admit he’d like to score some more runs. And it’s not through lack of trying in the nets. I think particularly that second innings was just one of those down the leg. We’re very clear that these six guys are the six best batters in Australia and although at times they might not have clicked altogether at once the story of our team has been someone’s being able to stand up when they need to,” Cummins said.

The second Test against New Zealand, starting Friday in Christchurch, presents an opportunity for Labuschagne to be back in form and remind the cricketing world of his batting capabilities.
