20-year-old left-arm orthodox bowler Shree Charani made her international debut against England during the ongoing five-match T20I series in the United Kingdom. In the first two matches, Charani has shown that she is ready for the big stage and is not overawed by the opposition or the conditions.

Charani made a sensational start to her international career, as she finished with mind-boggling figures of 4/12 in 3.5 overs in the first T20I in Nottingham. She followed it up with another impressive performance in the second T20I in Bristol, picking up the important wickets of Amy Jones and Alice Capsey in the same over to turn the game on its head. India won both the matches to go 2-0 up in the five-match series.

Charani received rich praise from senior Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma after performing exceptionally well in the first couple of encounters. Deepti said that she is pleased to see the youngster assessing the conditions and bowling in ideal areas. The Bengal cricketer also commended Charani's ability to learn and develop her skills quickly.

“It’s not easy on debut, but she took four wickets in her first game. She is pretty young; I appreciate that she assessed the conditions and bowled in the right areas because it is not easy," Deepti said while speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the third T20I, which will be played at the Kennington Oval in London on Friday, July 4.

“She was very confident heading into her first game, and even in the second, she took crucial wickets. She is developing herself quickly in these conditions," Deepti added.

We will follow our processes and take it one game at a time: Deepti

The Women in Blue have a chance to script history as they are one win away from bagging a series victory in England for the first time. However, Deepti asserted that the Indian team is not going to look ahead of itself and focus on the basics in the third T20I.

“We will follow our processes and take it one game at a time. We won’t try to do anything different. We are not looking that far. We are taking it only one game at a time and trying to continue what we are doing," Deepti said.

The Indian players underwent a 25-day camp in Bengaluru before arriving in England eight days before their five-match T20I series. Deepti said that India's preparation has been of great help, especially for the young players.

“We came here one week or so before the series, everyone was able to adapt well, and the practice matches also helped in getting used to the conditions. The youngsters benefited from it," Deepti added.
