Australian allrounder Glenn Maxwell scripted history during Match 24 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Netherlands on Wednesday, October 25 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, as he recorded the fastest hundred in the history of the tournament. The 35-year-old shattered record books as he reached the landmark in just 40 balls and played a breathtaking knock of 106 off 44 balls.

While Maxwell’s innings was studded with nine fours and eight sixes, one of his shots left everyone stunned as he smacked a 136kmph delivery by Bas de Leede for a six with an astonishing switch hit. On the second ball of the 47th over, the Dutch seamer bowled a fullish delivery on the leg stump at a decent pace.

However, Maxwell countered it by bringing out his favourite weapon from his armoury and played a ridiculous switch-hit to launch it over deep point for a maximum. Courtesy of his mind-boggling shot, Maxwell reached his half-century in just 27 balls and shifted gears to launch an all-out attack on the Netherlands.

Further ahead in the over, the Australian batter played another switch-hit on the fourth ball of the over launching De Leede for another six over third man. Maxwell unleashed his beast mode on the Dutch after those two shots and completed his hundred in no time.

Maxwell dedicated his knock to newborn baby boy

The swashbuckling batter celebrated his hundred in a unique fashion as he dedicated his knock to his newborn baby boy. Notably, the Australian star welcomed his first child with his wife Vini Raman in September 2023 and named him Logan Maverick Maxwell.

Meanwhile, Maxwell broke the record of Aiden Markram for the fastest hundred in the ODI World Cup, who had achieved the landmark in 49 balls against Sri Lanka during the fourth match of the ongoing edition at the same venue (Delhi).

Courtesy of hundreds from Maxwell and David Warner (104 off 93), Australia posted a massive score of 399/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
