Shreyas Iyer makes first public appearance since injury, image surfaces
Shreyas Iyer scored 72 runs in two innings against Australia.
Indian ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer injured his spleen and was rushed to the hospital during the third ODI in Sydney during India's three-match series Down Under. However, the middle-order batter has now recovered significantly, and an image of his first reported public appearance after the injury has gone viral online.
Iyer sustained the injury in the final ODI of the series while attempting to catch Alex Carey’s shot, running backward toward the third man boundary. The mishap caused internal bleeding, leading to his hospitalisation. After nearly 10 days of recovery, Iyer appears to be doing much better, and a recent photo of him with a fan has been trending on social media. However, CricTracker could not independently verify the claim. Nonetheless, the fans are thrilled to see him on the mend and eagerly await his return to the field.
Speaking about Iyer, he was in excellent form before his unfortunate injury. He scored a fluent 61 off 77 balls in the second ODI of the three-match series against Australia and looked in sublime touch throughout the tour. Prior to the series, Iyer led the India A side against Australia A, where he impressed with his consistency. In that three-match series, he struck a brilliant century (110) in the first ODI and accumulated a total of 180 runs as India A clinched the series 2–1.
After his recent recovery progress, Iyer is now hopeful of making a comeback in the upcoming ODI series against South Africa, which begins on November 30 in Ranchi. He was hospitalised in Sydney and spent a week in the ICU due to internal bleeding from a spleen injury. Following a series of medical check-ups, Iyer has nearly recovered, and his recent photo with a fan has given renewed hope to supporters and selectors alike.
The 30-year-old has been a vital part of India’s ODI setup, scoring 2917 runs in 73 matches at an impressive average of 47.81. In the IPL 2025, he captained the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and guided them to the final, where they narrowly lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
