Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin heaped praise on Australia’s emerging all-rounder Cameron Green and made a bold claim that teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) would be eager to buy him in the upcoming IPL Auction. Green is on a streak of form for Australia this year across formats, scoring 686 runs and picking up 22 wickets.

Ashwin expressed that just when people wondered how Green would fare in ODIs, he showed his big-hitting abilities. He added that the Australian can strike big and also has the sweep in his skillset against spinners. Green in the previous ODI series against New Zealand, scored 114 runs and also took two wickets.

In the three-match ODI series with Zimbabwe that was concluded earlier in the month, he finished as the joint highest wicket-taker with eight wickets with an economy rate of 3.16 and best figures of five for 33. "Just when everyone thought how he would do in the one-day format, he is showing his big-hitting prowess,” said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

IPL teams might think of using Cameron Green in the powerplay: Ashwin

“He is striking them big. He has his sweep shot against the spinners. He has the long hits as well. He is a tall fast bowler too," Ashwin added. He feels that the IPL teams might consider using the 23-year-old for the powerplay. Green has played only one T20I so far, which was against Pakistan in April. He scored 2 runs and registered bowling figures of two for 16 in three overs.

"Some teams (in IPL) might think of using him in the powerplay and might go after him in this year's auctions unless and until he pulls out. I am sure some team will break the bank for him in this year's auctions," said the 35-year-old bowler. Green made his ODI and Test debut in December 2020 and has played 14 Tests and 12 ODIs so far.

Green has scored 270 runs at an average of 54 and taken 11 wickets in ODIs, and has scored 723 runs at an average of 36.15 and scalped 16 wickets in the longest format. He will be next in action for the three-match T20I series in India, which will begin on September 20.
